Idaho Remains Dry, Oregon & Washington Show Improvements
It may be winter, but some portions of the Northwest continue to deal with drought conditions. The latest figures from the U.S. Drought Monitor show over 66% of Washington on par with soil moisture numbers for this time of year. The dry conditions are primarily found in the central portion of the state stretching down to the Palouse and the L/C Valley.
Oregon is faring even better, with over 70% of the state reporting average soil moisture numbers for this time of year. The driest conditions are found in Central Oregon as well as the extreme Northeast corner of the state.
Meanwhile, things are not as good in Idaho, where over 90% of the Gem State is abnormally dry for this time of year. In addition, nearly 5% of the state is under a Severe Drought while a slight portion of eastern Idaho is under an Extreme Drought. Much of the west remains very dry as 2025 starts, with 13% of Montana, 10% of Nevada, 14% of Arizona and 25% of Wyoming all report D-3 or Extreme Drought conditions.
