Idaho Falls Meat Packer Closes Its Doors
The Gem State has one less beef processor, after Intermountain Packing in Idaho Falls suddenly closed their doors earlier this month.
According to KIFI-TV, at least 150 employees were told to not come to report to work on Friday, April 3rd. Those that showed up reported they could not enter Intermountain Packing’s facility.
The state Department of Labor confirmed that the plant has in fact shut down. Company officials reported abrupt and unforeseeable financial crisis, which led to an inability to meet payroll obligations.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN Act, of 1988, requires companies with more than 100 employees to provide at least 60-days notice prior to a mass layoff.
The 66,000-square-foot facility, which was constructed in 2020, processed cattle and bison.
