ID, WA projects part of USDA’s Rural Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Funds

Earlier this week, the USDA announced an $891 million investment in rural drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in 43 states, including Washington and Idaho. Funding 220 projects, the investment will help improve rural water infrastructure for 787,000 residents. The projects are being funded through the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program.

Projects in the Northwest to receive funding include, in Idaho, nearly $3 million for the city of Rigby, just over $2 million for the city of Firth, $2.4 for the Cabinet Mountains Water District in Bonners Ferry, plus several loans statewide. In Washington, the city of College Place was awarded over $3.3 million, the Greater Bar Water District in Brewster was awarded $20,000 in loans and grants, plus there were a host of other loans and grants across the state.

USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development Bette Brand said this week, "Upgrading water infrastructure provides a path to economic growth and protects the health and safety of people who live and work in rural areas."

The Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas with populations of 10,000 or less.
