Hennings: Wheat Growers Are Concerned

Winter wheat growers are out seeding their fields for 2019.  And while many enjoyed a good 2018, there are still many concerns about what the future holds in store.  Two of the biggest issues still remain, a trade war with China and no 2018 Farm Bill.  Michelle Hennings, Executive Director of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers says growers are trying to remain optimistic, but so many variables remain.

“You know, things are very uncertain.  They are not sure in regards to with price, they understand there are issues going on with trade, concerned, but watching very closely.”

Hennings noted most wheat growers understand what the Administration is trying to do with China in the trade arena, but that does not make the pain any less or provide any certainty.  She also noted that wheat farmers, especially during the upcoming winter months, will use a fair amount of their time trying to fight efforts to remove the Snake and Columbia river dams.
