Live, Feeder Cattle Futures Mixed For Coming Months, Sanders Notes
Last week, the Washington sale barn had 1,100 head of cattle trade, when compared to a week earlier, and as the USDA's Greg Sanders noted, stocker and feeder cattle were firm in a light test.
“Feeder cattle futures saw $1.10 gain in September on expiration day, with other contracts down $0.60 and $1.57," Sanders said. "The CME Feeder Cattle Index was up 9 cents on September 23rd to $337.07. Slaughter cows were $3 to $5 lower, and slaughter bulls were $4 to $7 lower. Feeder steers, medium-large frame 1 and 2s, 600-650 pounds sold at $377.50. Meanwhile, 650-700 pounds sold for $365-$376. Feeder heifers, medium-large frame 1 and 2s, 600-700 pounds, sold from $342-$350. Slaughter cows on the bone utility, sold from $150-$155, and slaughter bulls yield grade 1 and 2, so from $167.50-$175. Bred cows on a per head basis, medium-large frame 1 and 2s that were five to eight years old, weighing 1,250 pounds, brought $2,700 per head.”
