Senator Chuck Grassley is warning Democrats not to play politics with the USMCA or farm disaster aid, despite a hyper-partisan mood in Congress.  Grassley is the chair of the Senate Finance committee, and said the House will take up the USMCA first.

“If it is a problem, House Democrats shouldn’t play games on trade, because our agriculture and our economy generally depends on those agreements getting through.”

“House Democrats shouldn’t be playing politics with trade issues…and also with the aid for FEMA, and floods, generally, because, why?" Grassley added.  "There are farmers hurting, where they’re flooded, right now, they don’t need any more.”

Politics over Puerto Rico hurricane aid has already sidelined $13-billion in disaster aid, which includes $5-billion for agriculture.  Earlier this week, 135 farm groups and lenders called on the president and lawmakers to stop the politics and help their farmers and others deal with “unprecedented destruction” from floods, drought, hurricanes, tornadoes and fires.
