Food safety experts from around the world are in Louisville, KY this week.  The list of experts is a long one, it includes scientists, across academia, as well as students, industry and regulatory agencies, all to address food safety issues.

Among the experts there USDA's Dr. Mindy Brashears.  She said one of the hot issues at the meeting of the International Association for Food Protection will be the USDA's controversial proposal  to modify and modernize the inspection system for swine.

“Any time there's change in any process there's questions. Which is understandable but I consider it a wonderful opportunity to be able to  bring my perspective to the table in order to show them, show the public that the decisions are good and ultimately will protect public health and prevent food-borne illnesses.”

Experts at the meeting will hear more about another new development, food grown from cells, which is a hot topic at the event.
