Starting Monday, the Oregon Department of Forestry is adding fire precautions to the Central Oregon District.  The goal is to reduce human caused fires in the hot, dry conditions.  ODF said smoking while traveling will have to be inside of a vehicle and open fires will be prohibited.  That includes campfires, charcoal fires, cooking and warming fires.  Portable appliances, like cookstoves with bottled fuel, will be allowed.  Chainsaw use is prohibited between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m., along with cutting, grinding and welding.

“With high temperatures forecasted, the district is issuing extra fire prevention restrictions to address the current conditions,” said Rob Pentzer, Central Oregon District Forester.

Additional Restrictions May Come If Conditions Change

As of Tuesday the 10th, the Central Oregon District is in high fire danger, except for the John Day/ Monument Unit which will remain in moderate   Department of Forestry says this sudden increase is due to fast changing weather conditions, and additional fire restrictions or regulations may apply depending on the fire risks.
