Seed Treatment Looks To Promote Faster, Uniform Early Season Establishment
Earlier this year, Midwestern BioAg, announced the launch of HydraPrime. Brandon Meiners said this seed treatment technology is designed to support faster, more uniform early season crop establishment.
"It's engineered specifically for helping seeds manage water better," Meiners said. "So, at planting, as seeds germinate, HydraPrime technology, what it does is it draws available moisture. It holds moisture near the seed and manages that moisture so that it creates a consistent germination and emergence.”
Looking To Address Low Soil Moisture
Meiners noted that HydraPrime creates a localized, moisture-rich microenvironment around the seed, improving water uptake, and improving consistency across the field. He added HdraPrime will be a great help to the dryer portions of the Northwest, where there is very little moisture in the top 2”-3” of soil.
“And so this HydraPrime is really going to be impactful to whatever moisture is there, it is going to draw it in," Meiners said. "It is going to hold it right next to that seed. And so when that seed does get germinated, getting it off to that fast start so that those roots can get down to where the moisture is actually at. And I think that's going to be extremely impactful for the farmers in the PNW.”
Meiners said not only does HydraPrime lead to a more uniform emergence and improved germination rates, but it also helps with drought stress tolerance. He added HydraPrime accelerated germination by up to two days, and wheat trials have shown up to a 4% increase in total germination versus untreated checks.
