Two Elk Poached In Idaho State Park
Idaho Fish and Game is looking for those responsible for poaching two elk near the visitor center at Farragut State Park.
Fish and Game officers were called to the Park on Sunday April 12th, to a report of a dead cow elk and a bull elk calf. Investigators say the animals were found less than a half mile from the visitor center near Highway 54. Fish and Game says both elk were shot, either Friday the 10th or Saturday the 11th, and portions of each animal had been removed.
Given the high level of use in that area, it is believed the elk were killed during late evening or early morning hours, likely under the cover of darkness.
There are currently no open elk seasons, and elk hunting is not allowed within Farragut State Park.
These Kills "Undermine Management Efforts"
Fish and Game said these types of crimes are violations of Idaho law and losses of valuable public resources. Elk are iconic big game gems in Idaho, and "illegal harvest undermines management efforts that sustain healthy herds".
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at (800) 632-5999. Information can also be reported on CAP's Website.
