Farming Community Looking For Direction From Monday’s WASDE
USDA’s May World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates, better known as the WASDE, typically draws a lot of interest, since it’s the first look at crop commodity production, use, trade and price trends for the new marketing year. World Agricultural Outlook Board chair Mark Jekanowski said two items of global context will also be noted in this month's WASDE.
“Tariffs and trade policy, we take current policy in place when the WASDE is released, we don't try to forecast changes in policy,” he noted.
On top of that, they look at the the southern hemisphere crop. Jekanowski said South American corn and soybeans will be a focus for both the current and new marketing year.
"Trying to parse out what the implications for the size of that crop might have on global supplies and the price outcomes from those global supplies relative to global demand.”
The latest WASDE report, as well as the USDA's May crop production forecasts will be available starting at 9 a.m. Pacific Monday May 12th.
