Progressive Agriculture Safety Day, recognized as the largest rural safety and health education program for children will visit the Big Bend campus in Moses Lake April 27th.  The inaugural event is sponsored by American Family Insurance agent Tom Cobb.

“Ag is what drives this economy here in Grant County, and in eastern Washington as well," Cobb said.  "And what a great place to have it.  And if we put the statistics to the kind of economics that agriculture brings we survive on it.”

In the U.S. and Canada, Progressive Ag Safety Days have been taking place for 20 years, providing educational, training and resources to make farm, ranch and rural life safer and healthier for children.  Cobb said any opportunity to keep young people safe, the farming community should take advantage of it.

“I'd be willing to bet that there’s a large percentage, upwards of maybe even 100% that someone knows someone who might have passed or had an injury on the farm.  So, yeah, there might be some tradition out there, but anything we can do to try educate people to become better and help that next generation maybe look for some of those hazards, that’s the value of the program.”

Progressive Ag Safety Day is geared toward kids four to 13.  There will be two sessions on Saturday the 27th, either 9 a.m. to noon, or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Registration forms can be picked up at the Tom Cobb Agency, 1022 South Pioneer Way in Moses lake, or by e-mailing.
