As temperatures outside get cooler, many of start thinking about cuddling up in front of a cozy fire.  Because of that, October has been named Firewood Month.  And before you light that fire, you are reminded several organizations are reminding you not to transport firewood from one community to another.  It's part of the Don't Move Firewood campaign.

"Between the Nature Conservancy Don't More Firewood campaign, and USDA's Hungry Pests campaign,” said Leigh Greenwood is with the Nature Conservancy.

"Pests change all the time. What doesn't change is the need to use safer firewood,” she also noted.

The campaign wants you to know that transporting firewood also moves whatever invasive pests might be living in that firewood.  So, some basic messages are to collect and burn wood locally, or use certified heat-treated firewood.
