DEQ Seeking Feedback on Eastern Idaho Expansion Proposal
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality is asking for your feedback on a draft reuse permit renewal for Idahoan Foods, LLC. Idahoan Foods’ facility in Idaho Falls, produces dehydrated potato products and land applies year-round to an adjacent 456.5-acre reuse site.
The company is proposing to add 1,498 acres to the currently permitted management units for a total acreage of 1,945 acre, which company officials claim would reduce total nitrogen loading per acre by approximately 50%.
The draft reuse permit establishes monitoring requirements, limits on nutrient and hydraulic loading, and conditions established by DEQ to protect public health and the environment. As part of the permitting process, the facility was also required to show that its operation would not cause public health or environmental concerns. Permit materials are available for public review on DEQ’s Public Comment Opportunities Website.
Written comments will be accepted through August 19, 2025, at 5 p.m. Mountain Time. DEQ said comments can be submitted electronically on the agency's website by mail or email to:
