Washington State Senator Brian Dansel has announced his resignation and accepted a position as a Special Assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

The Republican Senator from Republic will leave his 7th Legislative District post immediately and head to D.C.

In a statement, Dansel said it was an honor to serve noting, “Words cannot express the gratitude my family and I feel toward the citizens of this district, and I didn't take the decision lightly.”

Dansel said he believes that he can do more for the 7th District and Ferry County in Washington D.C. than as a state senator.

Senate Majority leader Mark Schoesler said they are sad to lose Dansel but proud of his selection noting the 7th District is influenced heavily by agriculture policy.

Republican precinct committee officers in the 7th District will now search for three candidates to replace Dansel from the five counties in the 7th District to present to commissioners from the counties.
