The deadline to sign-up for the Conservation Reserve Program, better known as CRP is Friday, February 28th.  Farm Service Agency Administrator, Richard Fordyce, said the deadline was set so that enrollment decisions by producers could be made by early spring before planting.

“So farmers and ranchers can use best management practices on that ground in preparation for CRP,” Fordyce noted.

Such practices include planting approved cover grasses and trees, to control soil erosion, improve water quality, and develop wildlife habitats over a long term acreage enrollment period.  The general CRP sign up period is just one of several program-related enrollments in what the Administrator knows will be an eventful and historic year.

“2020 marks the 35th anniversary of the Conservation Reserve Program,” Fordyce added.

More details on general sign up or additional CRP enrollments are available at your local FSA office, or on-line at the USDA’s Website.
