The USDA’s offer of early terminations of CRP contract to allow access to land for beginning farmers can also benefit growers who leave the program early.

Deputy Under Secretary Lanon Baccam said the farmers who terminate early will have their repayment and other fees waived if they sell or lease their CRP land to a beginning farmer or rancher.

That land also gets priority for other UDSA programs.

Baccam also noted that those who terminate early help other farmers looking to get into CRP.

“There is a cap of 24 million acres. We have a high demand and with this CRP early termination, we’re going to be able to free up additional acres that we can then enroll higher conservation practices elsewhere.”

Early termination options begin January 9th and anyone interested should check with their local FSA office.
