Fordyce Explains How Farm Safety Nets Will Improve
We’ve heard from the Administration that the farm safety net will become strengthened and more certain thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed into law over the summer. But what does that look like?
“Raising the reference prices for those Title I commodities that are eligible for ARC and PLC," said USDA’s Richard Fordyce Undersecretary for Farm Production and Conservation. "[And] the bill authorized the ARC and PLC program through the 2031 crop.”
Plus he pointed out the legislation provided additional base acres at ARC and PLC. Fordyce cited other examples such as lower marketing assistance, loan rates, changes to standing disaster programs, and crop insurance with higher coverage percentages and lower premiums.
“Producers understand that increase in reference prices in some farms, the opportunity to add base acres, that really solidifies the safety net that's in place,” fordyce said
