Corteva Highlighting Tools For Sugarbeet Growers Fighting Weeds
Weeds can take a lot of your time, but if not addressed properly, they can take a lot of your profit. Eric Scherder, U.S. Crop Protection Technical Lead at Corteva AgriScience said they’ve been in the sugarbeet business for a while, with products like Stinger, which he said has become a mainstay for many growers. But what’s new and exciting is the launch of Enversa herbicide.
“An in-season residual there for sugarbeet growers, bringing in that group 15. It's an encapsulated product, gives you that crop safety," Scherder said. "If we can bring some more layered residual into sugarbeets, allow it to really canopy out, we can get the weeds out there. That's where that small seeded broadleaf control is bringing just wonders. A lot of growers are really excited about what they can do there. Very economical, a way to really beat back the weeds.”

Now Is Not The Time To Skimp
Speaking of economical, Scherder said while the farm economy is challenging, at best, it’s important to consider this year’s crop as well as the long-term health of your operation.
“Most farmers are looking to pass that farm operation off that next generation," he said. "I don't think anyone wants to pass off another 100 years of weed seed either. The challenge that growers always see in a tight economy is I'll cut back here, I'll cut back there, on a herbicide, but usually it ends up costing more in season. So, I try to always encourage farmers to stay with their programs.”
