Corteva Rolls Out New Fungicide To Control Cercospora

Now that we’re moving into the heart of summer, and the heat will soon be here, sugarbeet growers need to be on the lookout for Cercospora. Ryan Humann with Corteva Agriscience noted if left untreated, this foliar disease will impact tonnage at harvest.

“You'll start to see it appear in small little spots, lesions." Humann said. "And every time you get a water or high humidity event, it continues to drive that disease to essentially, you know, produce more spots and leaf spotting. They'll start to like defoliate the leaf tissue, which is really bad because that sugarbeet is trying to use those resources and put that carbohydrates and sugars to the root, right? So, when you lose that foliar tissue, the plant has to use those stored up energy from the root and then to put it on new leaves.”

“That's the active ingredient, and that's where we're targeting when we spray and apply Verpixel to the sugarbeet plant," he said. "We're targeting that specific target site to prevent that Cercospora from, you know, kind of essentially, you know, taking root and then just more disease from developing.”
