Many of us are anxious to get out into our yards and gardens so that they can beautiful come the summer, but there are a couple of things you want to make sure to check.

University of Arkansas’ Mike Daniels said finding ways to conserve and more efficiently use water is critical.

“Usually if you have a water line leaking you should see a slight increase or even a large increase in your monthly water bill so you’re going to want to check on that. Leaks are a concern as far as water because it’s not something we always detect right away.”

And with the hot weather coming, it’s important to understand the best methods of watering your yard and garden. Daniels said it should be based on need.

“It’s also very important if you have these automatic lawn sprinkling systems to check those sprinkler heads, make sure they’re not leaking there. Make sure that they’re applying properly, that they’re applying to the soil. And make sure you put the right amount out. It’s always better to water with a little bit more and less frequently than it is to water everyday just a small amount.”
