Beef, Pork, Poultry Exports Drop
A look at April’s U.S. meat trade forecast points to overall export reductions both month-over-month as well as and year-over-year. Why the drop?
“Beef export forecast the change this month was largely reflecting reduced exports to China because of both tariff and non-tariff barriers, including the fact that we've seen a lapse in plant registrations for exports to China,” said USDA World Agricultural Outlook Board Chair Mark Jankowski
He added lower pork exports were reported as well, driven by less trade with China as well as increased global competition. Broiler exports were adjusted lower due to strong U.S. prices and stronger export price competition from Brazil. The turkey export forecasts are down from the previous month due to less expected production.
