The Washington State Beef Commission says last week’s Beef Counts event was another success.  The three-day event served 31,200 meals 975 families and provided 1,950 pounds of ground beef to those in need.   In an effort to maximize every food dollar, the Beef Commission said the chubs of ground beef in the Second Harvest December Mobile Market boxes were paired with produce and other perishable groceries.

“This specific distribution week is something that is dear to our hearts,” Melissa Delgadillo from Agri Beef Co. said. “It provides good quality protein for people during the holiday season.”

Each family received two chubs of ground beef to cook up for the holiday season.

“Being able to say, ‘happy holidays’ and guarantee people high quality protein with other pantry items is special,” said Aaron Brown from Second Harvest.

“Even when times are tough, we’re blessed to have beef in our freezers, so Beef Counts gives us the chance to feed hungry people in our own communities,” said Ryan Stingley, President of the Kittitas County Cattlemen’s Association. “Getting beef out to folks through Second Harvest this December helped make people’s holidays a little brighter.”

In addition, the Commission announced that  the Kittitas County Cattlemen and Ellensburg community collectively donated $3,350 on top of the beef community organizations such as Agri Beef Co., the Washington Cattle Feeders and many individual cattlemen and women across the state.  The funds donated to Beef Counts provide beef through Second Harvest’s Mobile Market’s free food distributions across Eastern Washington all year long.

Last week’s Beef Counts events made stops in Toppenish, Yakima and Ellensburg.
