AWW Gives Thousands of Dollars to WSU, Walla Walla Health Service

Late last week, the Auction of Washington Wines announced two donations to the wine community.  The organization gave $344,500 to Washington State University’s wine research program in Richland, and $10,000 to SOS Health Services of Walla Walla.  The funds are part of the brand-new Industry Grant Program.

AWW’s Shelley Tomberg told the Washington ag Network they believe that the wine industry is a giant family.

“If Washington state does well, we all do well.  If we continue to raise the bar of how wonderful and great Washington wines are, it’s good for everybody.”

Tomberg said they wanted to give to WSU to improve current and future research.  And with the SOS Health Services of Walla Walla, she said that donation was just the right thing to do.

“To the people who are picking the grapes and are out there in the fields, and really producing the beautiful wines that we get to share with all of our guests.  It just seems like the right thing to do.”

Tomberg said this was the first year AWW did these investments, and they are looking for additional nominees for 2018.  Since it’s inception in 1988, AWW has raise more than $41 million for WSU Wine Science Research as well as Seattle Children’s Hospital.
