AWW Awards $15K Grant To WWCC

Last month, the Auction of Washington Wines awarded a $15,000 grant to Walla Walla Community College’s Institute for Enology and Viticulture.  The programs is focused on providing education and training that will assist the Wine Industry.  Laura Kleinhofs with AWW said this grant money, only in it’s second year, is focused on helping the state’s wine industry as a whole.

“Seattle’s Children [Hospital] has been a part of our heritage.  We’ve always given to them.  WSU, money goes to research because that research benefits the entire industry.  But we felt we had an opportunity for a really big impact directly in the community, by starting this grant program.”

Kleinhofs added they see this grant money as an investment in the next generation of wine producers.

“It’ll improve the product, and hopefully they maybe participate down the road.  And again, our main focus is to promote Washington state Wine, so you’re right, this is an investment in the future, and just elevates the entire industry.”

The grant will support WWCC’s Human Capital fund, allowing students to earn an income while gaining real world experience that is credited toward obtaining their degree.
