Starting November 1st, producers who choose to be part of the ARC and PLC programs could sign up for the 2018 crop year.

FSA Acting Administrator Steve Peterson said farmers and ranchers have until August 1st of next year to sign up.

“The best way to enroll is probably contacting your local county office, finding out when you can come in and get in as early as possible so they’re not waiting until the last minute.”

Choosing to participate in ARC or PLC was the first step, but producers do enroll annually to ensure coverage.

Peterson said the programs part of a risk management strategy for producers, many of whom are dealing with low prices.

“We just issued 2016 payments starting October 1st. We will be paying out close to $8 billion.”
