Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue recently visited "Impossible Foods"; which is famous for making a plant-based beef-alternative sandwich it calls the Impossible Burger.

"This is important in the food sector. The United States Department of Agriculture is in the food business, from the consumer to the producer. And that's why we're here, to learn more about the opportunities and the advancements and the technologies of the innovation space.”

And the Secretary tired one of those burgers.

"I think it was a good facsimile in that way. I have not done a side-by-side comparison, but it was a good experience."

At the same time, he did not change his dietary preferences.  And he added that with plant-based beef-alternatives, the market will decide who survives.

"Ultimately, the consumer is in charge and I think many cattle people feel like thy will be able to compete and if "Impossible" can take it down to this scale, from a competitive perspective, it'll give the consumer more choices, and that's really what we are."
