The long-awaited Senate confirmation and swearing in of Sonny Perdue as the next Agriculture Secretary is less than a week away.  And many in agriculture are anxiously awaiting Perdue’s arrival at the department.  But after months of waiting and delays, American Farm Bureau Federation’s Dale Moore says many in the ag community are looking forward to next week, when the Senate can finally take up the issue of Perdue’s nomination.

“Sonny Perdue gets sworn in by the Senate as the next Secretary of Agriculture.  Then you’ll have the key cog in place for filling out that roster, whether that’s the undersecretary, the deputy undersecretary, all of the political appointees.”

Moore said once confirmed, Perdue will have heavy lifting to do, advocating for growers and producers, at a time when Congress has started work on the next farm bill, and the Trump Administration is proposing a 21% cut in USDA spending.
