Regenerative Ag Grows In Acres, Popularity

Regenerative agriculture continues to take root across America. New USDA data shows nearly 40 million acres used Department-supported regenerative practices in fiscal 2023—a more than 360% increase over the past decade.

The American Farm Bureau noted producers and ranchers have been adopting practices like cover crops, grazing management, conservation crop rotations, nutrient management and reduced tillage for years to improve soil health, water quality and wildlife habitat.

Now, USDA is expanding that effort with a new $700 million Regenerative Agriculture Pilot Program. The funding will support voluntary conservation practices through two of the Department's largest working lands programs, helping more producers build on conservation efforts already underway across millions of acres nationwide.
