Now that the holidays are behind us, it’s not abnormal to feel the blues, or perhaps battle depression.  The days are still dark, it’s cold, and all of the Christmas lights have been put away for another season.

Of all the things to take care of on the farm, your mental health may be the most important.  American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall stresses that no one needs to face mental health issues alone.

Farmers know what it means to work through tough times, but taking care of mental health is just as important as taking care of crops and livestock," Duvall said.  "Farm Bureau is proud to lead the Farm State of Mind Alliance, bringing together partners to make mental health resources easier to find and use.  The Alliance offers free, confidential tools like Togetherall, a 24/7 online peer community moderated by licensed professionals, and resources connecting farm families to counseling and stress-management support."

Duvall added farmers are facing challenges unlike any seen in a generation – but no one has to face them alone.  And help is available when you need it.

Farmers across the Northwest are also reminded to reach out to the AgriStress HelpLine.  It's a free, 24/7 hotline for the agricultural and forestry communities, including farmers, ranchers, fishermen, foresters, and their families.  You can call or text around the clock at (833) 897-2474. Helpline operators are trained to understand the unique stressors and situations of agriculture, forestry, and fishing.

All calls are answered within 30 seconds
