The Washington State Grape Society and Washington State University have partnered to hold a viticulture field day August 10th.

WSU’s Michelle Moyer says the day will have two themes, pest management in the morning, and wine production in the afternoon.

“When you think of a viticulture field day, you don’t think about wine production but the grapes have to go somewhere, so we thought this would be a good way for folks to see stuff in the vineyard and that see that translation into the winery.”

Workshops on scouting, sprayer calibration and efficiency and new pests will take place in the morning and the afternoon will include tours of the Columbia Crest winery.

Moyer says they host the workshop in early August because they try to get producers before harvest starts.

“They’re good things to think about when you start purchasing your pesticide products for next year and when you’re starting to winterize or go through your sprayers to put them away for the winter season.”

The event is limited to about 75 participants and often fills up with a waiting list. You can find out more at the Brown Paper Tickets event website.
