Washington State University is asking the state legislature for funding to construct a plant sciences building and then complete phase 2 of the global animal health project.

WSU President Kirk Schulz acknowledged that it’s a lot of money, but called it a huge lift and something that is important for more than just the school.

“I’ve been amazed that the ag industry in the state of Washington is all together on both of these projects. They [Congress] expect us to show up and say we need these, but it’s great when we’ve got a variety of producers and industries that say, ‘Hey, let me tell you what you need to do at Washington State University and this is important to our success.’”

Schulz said they will go to the legislature with what they need, explain why it’s important, but noted the school will mostly stay out of telling legislators how to fund it.
