The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has confirmed a wolf was shot and killed outside of Sprague Lake early last week.  WDFW said a ranch employee shot and killed a wolf chasing cattle in northeast Adams County February 4th.  Department officials say there are no documented packs in the area.

WDFW added the unidentified employee saw three wolves chasing cattle.  When he yelled at the wolves, two reportedly stopped and retreated, while a third, later identified as an adult female continued after the cows.  It was at this point the employee shot and killed the wolf.  This was also the first time the ranch has reported problems with wolves.  The initial investigation shows the killing was in compliance with state law.
