Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue welcomes the continued trade talks between the United States and China, saying he's optimistic since the two sides are still talking.  During a recent visit to Perdue University in Indiana, said he's encouraged that  the Chinese Vice Premier will make another trip to Washington D.C.

"This is an emissary that President Xi has sent here to speak for him. Obviously, I think the finality of this deal will be done between President Trump and President Xi, as it should be."

Perdue said he understands why farmers are anxious, but he noted there are outstanding enforceability issues.

"Part of the problem is that China has indicated before in the past that they would do some things and they did not live up to that. When they entered the WTO, they made some commitments that we don't believe that they lived up to."
