Winter wheat acres jumped substantially from 2021, according to NASS.

 

 

Idaho growers planted 770,000 acres of winter wheat this year, up 60,000 acres from 2021.  Harvested area, at 710,000 acres, is up 70,000 acres from 2021.  Winter wheat production in Idaho is 63.9 million bushels, up 41% from last year with yield estimated at 90 bushels per acre, up 19.0 bushels per acre from 2021.

 

Oregon planted 730,000 acres of winter wheat for 2022, up 10,000 acres from a year ago.  Harvested area, at 720,000 acres, is up 15,000 acres from 2021. Winter wheat production in Oregon is 49 million bushels, up 54% from last year with yield estimated at 68.0 bushels per acre, up 23 bushels per acre from 2021.

 

Washington growers planted 1.85 million acres of winter wheat for 2022, up 100,000 acres from 2021. Harvested area, at 1.80 million acres, is up 110,000 acres from 2021. Winter wheat production in Washington is 122 million bushels, up 72% from 2021’s numbers, with yield estimated at 68 bushels per acre, up 26.0 bushels per acre from 2021. 

 

Meanwhile spring wheat planted in Washington topped out at 475,000 acres, down 105,000 acres from 2021.  Harvested area, at 470,000 acres, is down 70,000 acres from 2021. Spring wheat production in Washington is 21.6 million bushels, up 34% from last year, with yield estimated at 46 bushels per acre, up 16 bushels per acre from 2021.

 

Idaho growers planted 380,000 acres of spring wheat in 2022, down 130,000 acres from 2021. Harvested area, at 360,000 acres, is down 125,000 acres from 2021. Spring wheat production in Idaho is 29.2 million bushels, down 5% from last year with yield estimated at 81 bushels per acre, up 18 bushels per acre from 2021.

 

 

Idaho planted 560,000 acres of barley in 2022, up 30,000 acres from 2021.  Harvested area, at 540,000 acres, is up 40,000 acres from 2021.  Barley production in Idaho is 59.9 million bushels, up 35% from last year with yield estimated at 111 bushels per acre, up 22 bushels per acre from 2021.

 

Oregon planted 36,000 acres of barley in 2022, down 4,000 acres from 2021. Harvested area, at 19,000 acres, is down 2,000 acres from 2021. Barley production in Oregon is 1.05 million bushels, up 56% from last year with yield estimated at 55 bushels per acre, up 23.0 bushels per acre from 2021.

 

Washington planted 72,000 acres of barley in 2022, down 11,000 acres from 2021. Harvested area, at 60,000 acres, is down 10,000 acres from 2021. Barley production in Washington is 5.04 million bushels, up 89% from last year with yield estimated at 84 bushels per acre, up 46 bushels per acre from 2021.

 

Idaho planted 50,000 acres of oats in 2022, unchanged from 2021.  Harvested area, at 16,000 acres, is up 3,000 acres from 2021.  Oat production in Idaho is 1.02 million bushels, up 9% from last year with yield estimated at 64 bushels per acre, down 8 bushels per acre from 2021.

 

Oregon planted 20,000 acres of oats in 2022, up 5,000 acres from 2021. Harvested area, at 8,000 acres, is up 2,000 acres from 2021. Oat production in Oregon is 840,000 bushels, up 126% from last year with yield estimated at 105 bushels per acre, up 43 bushels per acre from 2021.
