It’s not often that mild weather and wild weather impact fuel prices at the same time.  But 2017 is turning out to be anything but normal.  Marie Dodds with AAA told the Washington Ag Network fuel prices and oil prices have increased thanks in large part to the mild weather across the U.S. this fall, which has allowed more of us to hit the road, putting a pinch on demand.  And while the nice weather has impacted fuel prices, Dodds noted we’re still seeing an impact from two of this season’s major hurricanes.

“We saw, of course production fall along the Gulf Coast in the wake of Harvey and that sent diesel prices up about 15 cents after Harvey hit and diesel has never really recovered.”

Dodds said she anticipates fuel prices will trend lower by the end of 2017.

“And in fact in some cases, gas and diesel prices could dip as much as a dime and even a quarter.”

As far as current diesel prices are concerned, the National average for a gallon of diesel is holding steady at $2.84, Oregon’s average increased one cent in the past week to $3.03, while Washington’s average is unchanged at $3.19. Dodds noted those prices are significantly more than what we saw one year ago.

As for the lowest local diesel prices:

  • $3.08 a gallon in the Tri Cities
  • $3.15 a gallon in Walla Walla
  • $2.99 a gallon in Yakima
  • $3.07 a gallon in Wenatchee
  • $3.09 a gallon in Moses Lake
  • $2.81 a gallon in Pendleton
