Washington’s Snowpack Continues To Improve

Just a few weeks ago, the Washington statewide snowpack was around 107% of average.  Now, that figures has jumped to 109% of average.

“We’ve received some really good storms," said NRCS' Scott Pattee.  "We’ve held on to what we’ve gotten, even with the warm weather over the weekend, it stayed cool in the mountains, it’s cool and crisp, so our numbers are better than they’ve been all year.”

As far as the basins east of the Cascades are concerned:

• Upper Columbia 136%
• Central Columbia 102%
• Upper Yakima 98%
• Lower Yakima 99%
• Lower Snake 112%
• Spokane 114%

Pattee says at this point, irrigators really have nothing to fear as we approach another growing season.

“I think we’re going to keep adding to it.  The long-range forecast at least through this month, is for cool and wet.  So, that bodes well for adding to our mountain snowpack.”
