Washington/Oregon Potato Conference Underway

Potato growers from across the Inland Northwest have trickled in to the Tri-Cities for this week’s Washington-Oregon Potato Conference.  The three day event hosts hundreds of growers, hundreds of vendors.  Chris Voigt, executive Director of the Washington state Potato Commission told the Washington Ag Network this is a great opportunity to network and checkout the latest the industry has to offer.

“The Washington and Oregon potato producers are probably more progressive than anyone else in the country.  They are really looking for those new innovations that can help them become better farmers, more sustainable, and more innovative.”

There will be a host of lectures over the next two days.  In addition, Voigt said pesticide credits and CRP training will be offered.

“It’s going to be a chance to try out a new potato variety.  We do a big baked potato bar every year, and we’ve got a new variety that we’re working on and it will be showcased there.”

That Potato Bar takes place Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
