Legislation in the Washington House looks to provide a sales and use tax exemption for qualifying farm machinery and equipment.

State Representative Tom Dent, one of the sponsors of this legislation, notes this is an effort to reduce the stress and overload producers across the Evergreen state are facing.  He added Washington is one of a few states that does not provide sales and use tax exemptions for the agriculture industry.

Dent added House Bill 2584 is a companion bill legislation already in the Senate, and he’s hopeful the idea will continue to move.

“Let's give them a break, right?  I know what it's like to be out there, and there just isn't any money, and we just need to help them," Dent said.  "If we want them to be able to do things, buy new equipment, also support the people that support them, then we need to give people a little bit of a break, and that's what it's about.”
