Beekeepers and brokers in Washington can now file their 2017 registrations with the WSDA which is due by April 1st.

Pest Program Outreach Coordinator Karla Salp said the money they get from these registrations helps beekeepers throughout the state.

“It collects funds for research into our hives. For example, the past couple of years have seen research done on colony collapse disorder and overall colony health and those funds are collected from these fees that we collect for having the hives.”

Information collected is name and location along with number of hives.

Registration is required and Salp said it’s better to do it sooner rather than later.

“The longer past April 1st that it is, the higher the fee will be. So try to get that in by April 1st or very soon thereafter.”

Salp said they also ask anyone who no longer has bees fill out the form to indicate that they are out of the business.

There is no online registration available, so go to the Apiary website, print out the form and mail it in with your fee.
