WAFLA: CA Bus Crash Highlights the Importance Of Legal Worker Programs
The Washington Farm Labor Association says the bus crash in Central California that killed five earlier this week highlights the importance of having a legal worker program. Dan Fazio with WAFLA told the Washington Ag Network as the U.S. moves to a very unregulated program to a centralized one, it will be important of government agencies and farms to ensure that bus lines are safe, and proper protocol is fallowed.
Fazio acknowledged rules and regulations won’t prevent traffic crashes.
“You’re never going to wipe out traffic crashes on highways, but what you can do to mitigates it is #1make sure that the safety practices of the company that you work with are the highest in the industry and #2 make sure they are adequately insured.”
Fazio said WAFLA has nothing to do with the bus company at the center of this week’s crash. He also noted not many farm workers are moving around right now, because of increased demand and a continual harvest period.
