The Washington Apple Education Foundation has announced the winners of their annual Year of the Apple art contest and the top three were from different areas of Central Washington.

Hailey Fisher of Southridge High School in Kennewick took home the top prize with a painting titled Gala. It depicts a Gala apple with radiant colors and an interesting backdrop.

For winning, Fisher will pocket $1,000 she plans to use for tuition at Whitman College.

Second place, and $500 went to Hienschi Nguyen of Sunnyside High School, and third place, with its $250 prize, went to Eric Arroyo of Okanogan High School.

Judges had to determine the best three from 84 entries this year from students in 10 different counties.
