WAEF: Hundreds Attending College Thanks To The Tree Fruit Industr

The Washington Apple Education Foundation announced last week it is sending over 300 students off to college this fall with scholarship awards totaling over $1 million. Students receiving WAEF scholarships have been raised in families employed in the tree fruit industry. Over 70% of WAEF scholarship recipients are the first in their families to attend college.

“The students applying for WAEF scholarships demonstrate remarkable potential, bringing strong academic records, leadership experiences, and determination to succeed. This makes the selection process both rewarding and challenging. We are grateful to the volunteers who approach this responsibility with such commitment and integrity and to the donors that make these generous scholarships possible. Together, we’re investing in the next generation of leaders,” shared Nate Fulton, chairman of the 2025 WAEF scholarship committee.

To receive an award, students complete an online application detailing academics, community & school involvement, financial need, career plans, and motivation to attend college. More than 60 volunteers participate in the selection process, which includes reviewing applications and conducting interviews.

This year's scholarship recipients include:

Adams County
