From his first stint as Agriculture Secretary, back in 2009, Tom Vilsack has talked about and worked, "...to build an urban agricultural opportunity."

The latest step in that direction coming recently when Vilsack announced the make-up of his new advisory committee on urban agriculture.  A group of 12 people with diverse background and talents. Farmers, financial experts, educators, business leaders and others who will be working together to help identify barriers to urban agriculture so that USDA and lawmakers can reduce those barriers and better support endeavors all the way from roof-top gardens to sophisticated vertical farming systems. The first meeting of this committee is slated to happen late in February and will be open to the public.
