When it comes to fighting wildfires here in the west, the Biden Administration is asking Congress for "a significant increase in the forest service budget, that would allow us to accelerate significantly hazardous fuel removal from our force."

Which is key to reducing the number and severity of wildfires, Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack noted.

"We've not been able to do that because we've basically been taking those resources and fighting the fires," Vilsack continued.

Taking money each year from the forest management fund to pay for fighting wildfires, of which we've already seen over 35,000 this year, and, "we have close to 20,000 people that are employed right now as we speak fighting about 91 nature fires across primarily the northwestern part of the country and it's an expensive proposition and in the long run we will all be better off if we invest strongly in management."

Vilsack says to do what it takes to reduce the risk of wildfire on one acre it costs about $1400 but, "it takes $50,000 to put a fire out on that same acre."
