USDA: Wheat Stocks Up, Oats And Barley Lower
NASS is out with the latest grain summaries and stocks.
All wheat stored as of September 1st totaled 1.99 billion bushels, up 12% from a year ago. On-farm stocks are estimated at 664 million bushels, up 11% from last September 2023, while off-farm stocks, at 1.32 billion bushels, are up 13% from a year ago. The June - August 2024 indicated disappearance is 682 million bushels, up 12% from the same period a year earlier.
As of September 1st, durum wheat stocks totaled 67.3 million bushels, up 17% from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 47.1 million bushels, are up 42% from September 1, 2023. Off-farm stocks totaled 20.2 million bushels, down 16% from a year ago. The June - August 2024 indicated disappearance of 33.8 million bushels is up 13% from the same period a year earlier
Barley stocks in all positions on September 1st totaled 154 million bushels, down 14% from September 1st. On-farm stocks are estimated at 90.3 million bushels, 27% below a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 63.8 million bushels, are 15% above September 2023. The June - August 2024 indicated disappearance is 68 million bushels, 6% below the same period a year earlier.
All oats stored as of September 1st totaled 65.2 million bushels, down 13% from numbers reported last year. Of the total stocks on hand, 38.6 million bushels are stored on farms, 9% higher than a year ago. Off-farm stocks totaled 26.6 million bushels, 33% below the previous year. Indicated disappearance during June - August 2024 totaled 38.8 million bushels, compared with 16.5 million bushels during the same period a year ago.
Old crop corn stocks in all positions on September 1st totaled 1.76 billion bushels, up 29% from September 1, 2023. Of the total stocks, 780 million bushels are stored on farms, up 29% from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, at 980 million bushels, are up 30% from a year ago. The June - August 2024 indicated disappearance is 3.24 billion bushels, compared with 2.74 billion bushels during the same period last year.
Old crop soybeans stored in all positions on September 1st totaled 342 million bushels, up 29% from September 1, 2023. Soybean stocks stored on farms totaled 111 million bushels, up 54% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 231 million bushels, are up 20% from last September. Indicated disappearance for June - August 2024 totaled 628 million bushels, up 18% from the same period a year earlier
Old crop grain sorghum stored in all positions on September 1, 2024 totaled 30.5 million bushels, up 26% from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 2.94 million bushels, are up 112% from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 27.6 million bushels, are up 21% from September 1, 2023. The June - August 2024 indicated disappearance from all positions is 18.9 million bushels, down 34%t from the same period a year ago.
Old crop sunflower stocks in all positions on September 1, 2024 totaled 575 million pounds, up 57% from a year ago. All stocks stored on farms totaled 139 million pounds and off-farm stocks totaled 436 million pounds. Stocks of oil type sunflower seed are 507 million pounds; of this total, 134 million pounds are on-farm stocks and 373 million pounds are off-farm stocks. Non-oil sunflower stocks totaled 68.3 million pounds, with 5.35 million pounds stored on the farm and 63 million pounds stored off the farm.
