At this year's USDA Ag Outlook Forum, many sectors of the farming industry discussed expectations for 2019 and beyond.  Organic was no different Economist Catherine Green said agriculture as a whole can take away something from each of the major organic categories.

As far as dairy is concerned, "Interesting corollary to go with that is that the percent, the organic share, of total fluid milk sales has still been going up.”

Green said while organic production can be more expensive, consumers are willing to pay the premium price, which means the effort more often than not pencils out.

If that's the case, "It raises that big question why aren't the grain producers looking at those premiums and saying we can make more profits going organic?” Green added.
