Farmers will take any help they can in fighting pests and that’s why USDA is offering up approximately $12 million in grants for IPM research.

National Institute of Food and Agriculture Director Sonny Ramaswamy says pests come from a variety of sources locally, or through international trade.

“The naturally occurring insects in those countries, they may have bored into the tree and that tree was cut down and then the timber taken was converted into lumber.”

A wide variety of land-grant and non-land-grant universities can apply for the grant which is due by May 9th.
