How does the winter wheat crop look nationwide?  .

Even through it's a slow developing crop most of it looks pretty good. We're steady for a second consecutive week at 60% good to excellent with just 9% very poor to poor,” said USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey. “Huge improvement over last year's drought affected crop when we had drought across the central and  southern great  plains.”

Rippey notes last year at this time, 31% of the crop was considered good to excellent and 37% was considered very poor to poor.

"We have the heading progress for the week ending April 14th and that shows 6% of the nation's crop has headed out on that date. 5 year  average is 9% last year 8%.”

Rippey added nationwide, nearly all winter wheat production states are at or delayed in terms of heading.
