United Grain Corporation purchased the grain division of Pendleton Grain Growers last month.

UGC VP of Business Development Tony Flagg says they would like to expand and work with every producer in the area.

“The producers are going to have a dual benefit. One, more competition. Two, an investment in infrastructure making things faster and larger.”

Flagg hopes to build up the PGG facilities to allow farmers better speed, space and service which he hopes will reduce margins and keep more money in farmers’ pockets.

When PGG became available, Flagg says it was critical for UGC’s mission to take action.

“We want to get next to the producers and do as much business directly with the producers as possible. We want to be fully integrated in the entire supply chain.”

Winter wheat harvest had to pause late last week when some rains came through the area, so Flagg says it is too early to know the yields, but he did say protein levels were on the high side.
